Bipolar stepper motor driver

Our controller implements constant current driver.

 

Bipolar stepper motors have a single winding per phase, and the current in winding needs to be reversed using driving circuitry which makes it more complicated.

Because windings are better utilized, bipolar stepper motors are more powerful than a unipolar motors of the same weight (usually by 50%).
Performance of stepper motors are highly dependent on the driving circuitry. Torque curves may be enhanced if the polarity of windings can be reversed more quickly. The limiting factor is the winding inductance. To overcome this problem, driving voltage must be increased, but current limiting circuitry must be implemented in order to protect the motor from high current this increased voltage can induce.

Our controller implements constant current driver. The current in each winding is monitored by the controller so it doesn’t exceed set value. Current can be adjusted continuously from 0-10A. Controller supports full step, half step, quarter step and sixteenth step modes. It has simple 2-wire step and direction interface compatible with most CNC controllers.
